Company history

DiegoHello everyone, as some of you already know, my name is Diego Gerle and I´ll start with the presentation. I will speak about the History of Schlumberger, after that, I will refer to key dates in the company history, and finally I will talk about some of the company´s subsidiaries.

Well, between 1870 and 1880 the Schlumberger brothers were born. They conceived a great idea to use Electrical Measurements to make subsurface surveys for the oil industry, it allowed to start making subsurface surveys. This turned Schlumberger into the leading provider of subsurface surveys. After that, the growth of the company was continuous over its history.

Now, we will talk about some important dates in the company history.

  • In 1912 Conrad came up with the innovative idea to use electrical measurements to map subsurface rock bodies.
  • In 1926 the Schlumberger Company was founded by both brothers.
  • In 1982 an amazing 21 percent ratio profit made Schlumberger the most profitable of the world's 1,000 largest corporations.
  • In 2003, Andrew Gould was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Schlumberger Limited
  • In 2010, Paal Kibsgaard wasappointed Chief Operating Officer of Schlumberger Limited. The merger with Smith International was completed.
Finally, I will speak about the last offices that the company has opened. In 2011 Slb opened offices in Sentra Mulia, It is a building in Yakarta - Indonesia. In 2012 it opened a Well Service Facility in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk which is a small Russian Island. In 2012, It opened its new Integrated Operations Facility in Kazakhstan. This is a Country between Asia and Europe.

Any doubts?? Thanks for your attention, I´ll leave you with CC.

Hello! I'm Claudio Correa and I'll start speaking about new orders. Then, I'll refer to periods and finally, I'll talk about new products.

New Orders2012 was a great year for us. We had the best turnover in the last 5 or 6 years. We received big orders from Venezuela, Brazil and Houston. With regard to national orders, we had a few in the first half of 2012, while in the second half, we received more. We covered all the internal production hours. Also, we had some parts produced by external mechanising providers.

In 2013, demand from our customers dropped. However, we expanded our customer portfolio. We started quoting to new customers, such as Ecuador and Mexico. In February, we had a problem with Venezuela, which stopped quotations and shippings. Luckily this problem was resolved.
PeriodsFrom 2004 to 2012 we increased our performance year to year. The best year was 2012. In this year, we had the best turnover and the best hour performance. Apart from that, we managed to keep our expenses within budget.
As I’ve already told you, we started a weak 2013. We had a drop in orders in the first quarter. But I think that we'll have a great future developing new products. We can even reach and improve 2012 performance.

New products
At the end of 2012 we started to develop the Copperhead. It was a new tool for us and it sold well in Houston. Copperhead is an aluminum tool and it has cones covered with copper. This is the reason for the name. Currently, we have pending orders to be shipped to Argentina, Mexico and Ecuador. And we have some quotations without answer yet.
We hope to develop new tools and increase our tool portfolio in 2013. Thus, we'll be able to offer a bigger variety of products to our customers as well as reach new markets and expand our production.

Any questions? Now, I'll leave you with CM. Thanks for your attention.

Good morning, Today I´d like to tell you about Schlumberger's subsidiaries. After that, I´ll talk about its latest Ceo´s and finally I’m going to talk about the latest news.

As you know, slb has 120,000 employees and a lot of subsidiaries all over the world. To begin with, we can see that there are eight main areas or Geomarkets and we can say that they are connected to Completions structure. This point could be confusing because other kinds of divisions already exist in the company. For example, EMS (Engineering, Manufacturing and sustaining) is a group which has subsidiaries in Argentina, Houston, China, Belfast and Mexico. If you pay attention, LAM´s manager is Hatem Soliman, but VRMP and NMP are based in Argentina and they report to another manager.

Let´s talk about the company's CEOs. The former CEO was Andrew Gould .He retired from his role on 1 August 2011. He served as the CEO of Schlumberger from February 2003 to August 2011.Gould started his career at Schlumberger in 1975 .He achieved the CEO´s position at the age of 57.The current CEO is Paal Kibsgaard. Before this position, Kibsgaard was a chief operating officer, vice president of Engineering, Manufacturing and Sustaining; vice president of Personnel for Schlumberger Limited; and president of Schlumberger Drilling & Measurements. He achieved the CEO´s position at the age of 43.

One of the latest events in the company is connected with the relationship between SLB and PDVSA. Both companies had disagreements since July 2012 until a few weeks ago.The problem was that PDVSA didn´t pay for slb services and that was the main reason why slb suspended all deliveries to Venezuela. Two weeks ago some companies, like Chevron and SLB, announced credits to PDVSA.SLB will give 1B dollars to PDVSA.The agreement will allow PDVSA to continue contracting Schlumberger for work, even if it doesn´t have cash flow to pay immediately. The contract was made between Paal Kisbaarg and Rafael Ramirez(Energy minister). Ramirez says that SLB and PDVSA have been evaluating to launch a joint venture which may allow them to work together in Venezuela. That marks an unusual step for a services company, which generally operates as a contractor rather than an oilfield partner.
